Intumescent coatings are designed to expand when exposed to high levels of heat. This expansion retards the transfer of heat, giving up to four hours protection during a fire and greatly reducing the immediate impact of fire spread and heat damage.
In structural steel this retardant quality helps to maintain the building's load bearing abilities so preventing short term collapse or distortion.
Similarly the intumescent coated products we install, such as intumescent pipe collars, and cable coatings, provide fire protection through ducting and service access holes. This means that the spread of the fire can be contained within certain areas to prevent spreading.
